digiio helps host University of Washington students for UK insights event

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

digiio had the pleasure of hosting students from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle earlier this month. The cohort, who study at UW’s Foster School of Business were in London to explore topics related to the post-Brexit environment and its effects on London and Britain.

Welcoming US students to the UK

Normally based in Seattle, the students are either business majors or have a minor in business with a major in Economics, Informatics, or Environmental Studies. They visited the UK as part of a summer programme led by the Global Business Center at University of Washington.

digiio Data & Insights Director Andrew Leming played a role in hosting the students while they visited with one of our technology clients. During the visit, they enjoyed presentations and hands-on tech demos designed to highlight the UK market conditions post-Brexit and explore the potential of AI to transform the business environment here and further afield.

The importance of forging links between education and industry

digiio were invited to get involved in hosting the trip because, as well as contributing to our Insights programme, digiio Principal Consultant Fred Pursell is an adjunct professor at the Foster Business School. We were absolutely delighted to be able to help contribute to their agenda which included understanding the UK market and, especially, the concepts and opportunities around responsible AI.

Andrew Leming comments, “It was a really interesting afternoon and we received a lot of positive feedback from the students and their tutors. The college was especially interested in understanding how AI might impact education and how to embrace AI from an educational perspective. It underlined exactly why forging links between education and industry is so important – to foster the free two-way flow of ideas for the benefit of education, industry and wider society.”

Our transatlantic connections

Having crossed the Atlantic himself – being a native of Tennessee and having studied in the US and South America – Andrew was in a great position to offer the students personal insights into making the transition from the US to the UK.

He says, “The students were interested in my own experiences and, especially, the fact that the job market here offers some unique advantages.”

Huge thanks out to everyone involved in making the day such a great success.
